Terms and Conditions

The Counsellor

I am a qualified counsellor and member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I work to the BACP’s Ethical Framework for good practice as detailed by the governing body. I also have liability insurance.

As a therapist, I receive supervision in accordance with the BACP guidelines and am a fully registered member.

Providing a Safe Therapeutic Environment

I am committed to providing a safe therapeutic environment for those I work with. This contract means that we are both committed to time and energy in deciding to work together and it is important to know what agreements we are making together.

I provide online counselling sessions for adults aged 18 and over.

I currently offer appointments Monday to Friday. I am unavailable on weekends and evenings. If you send an email, please allow up to 48 hours for a response.

In crisis? If you need immediate support, please contact Samaritans: 116 123 (free, 24/7).

If I take leave, I will provide you with ample notice to allow for preparation.

Confidentiality & Records

The content of the session is confidential between you and me. I may need to discuss work with my supervisor as part of the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice, but you will remain anonymous and I will not reveal any identifying details about you.

All records are stored and destroyed in accordance with GDPR.

Exceptional circumstances in which confidentiality may be breached include: risk of harm to self or others; child protection issues; acts of terrorism; drug trafficking; or money laundering.

Communication with Other Professionals

On very rare occasions, if we discover there is a need to communicate with other professionals, this will only proceed after first seeking your permission and providing you with knowledge of what is to be discussed.

Records of Our Sessions

I may make brief notes after each session, and I take responsibility for keeping them stored securely. Notes are retained for 3 years after our work ends, unless legal or professional obligations require otherwise. You have the right to request access to your records under data protection laws.

The Counselling Session

The whole 50 or 90 minutes belongs to you. If you arrive late, I will still be there, but it is important to end the session at the agreed allocated time.

I will not see you if you are under the influence of alcohol or any illicit substances, both for health and therapeutic reasons.

Safeguarding & Legal Proceedings

Counselling sessions are confidential. However, there are exceptions where I am legally or ethically required to break confidentiality:

  • If you disclose a serious risk of harm to yourself or others.
  • If I become aware of abuse or neglect involving a child or vulnerable adult.
  • If you disclose involvement in criminal activity I am obliged to report (money laundering, drug trafficking, terrorism).
  • If I am required to share information by a court order or legal request.

Where possible, I will discuss any necessary breaches of confidentiality with you before taking action.
